Psalm 127 Amplified Bible
Unless the Lord builds the
house, they labour in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city,
the watchman keeps awake in vain. 2 It is vain for you
to rise early, to retire late, to eat the bread of anxious labours— For He
gives [blessings] to His beloved even
in his sleep. 3Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord, The fruit
of the womb a reward. 4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are
the children of one’s youth. 5 How blessed [happy and
fortunate] is the man whose quiver is filled with them; they will not be
ashamed when they speak with their enemies [in gatherings] at the [city] gate.
Psalm
127 Good News Bible
If the Lord does not build the house, the work of the builders is useless; if
the Lord does not
protect the city, it does no good for the sentries to stand guard. 2 It
is useless to work so hard for a living, getting up early and going to
bed late. For the Lord provides
for those he loves, while they are asleep. 3 Children are a
gift from the Lord; they
are a real blessing. 4 The sons a man has when he is young
are like arrows in a soldier's hand. 5 Happy is the man who has
many such arrows. He will never be defeated when he meets his enemies in
the place of judgment.Solomon having a house to build, a city to keep, and seed to raise up to his father, David directs him to look up to God, and to depend upon his providence, without which all his wisdom, care, and industry, would not serve.
Everyone knew that Solomon was a wise man, and would be correct to lean on his own understanding but his father teaches him to look higher, and to take God along with him in his undertakings
Prayer Point
- Lord, please help us to look up to You in the raises and teaching of our children
- Help us not to lean on our understanding or experiences or other people’s experiences to raise the gifts- heritage- You have given to us
- Father, please help us to manage our business in respect of our home and children under Your instruction
- Come Lord, build our home. We do not want to build in vain.
- Help us to build according to Your pattern
3Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord, The fruit of the womb a reward
It is the Lord that gives them, if they are given and when He gives, they are to us what He makes them. Children are a heritage, and a reward, and are so to be accounted; blessings and not burdens
Prayer Point
Lord, You are the one that gives children as gifts, please release Your gifts unto us; in particular for those of us who are waiting on You to receive ours
Lord, You are the one that gives children as gifts, please release Your gifts unto us; in particular for those of us who are waiting on You to receive ours
- Lord, please strengthen the loins and the wombs, O God
- We trust in You Lord for the provision and safety of the children that You will release unto us.
- We will train them up in the fear of You O Lord, with Your help.
- We will consult You O God concerning them in every situation.
Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. “Honor your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, “so you will live well and have a long life.”
Children
do sometimes struggle to obey and honour their parents. Probably because the
enemy knows that this carries a blessing along with it, as a promise of God. If
children do not have the life of Christ in them, it is difficult for obedience
to be natural to them. They will struggle to live a life of obedience as it
seems.
Prayer Point- Lord, let the exchange of life take place in our children.
- As you release these gifts unto us help us to raise them up in Your will
- Lord, give us wisdom to teach Your heritage Your word and ways, till they reach Calvary where the exchange of life takes place
- Rid them of the works of flesh Lord
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to the point of resentment with demands that are trivial or unreasonable or humiliating or abusive; nor by showing favoritism or indifference to any of them], but bring them up [tenderly, with lovingkindness] in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
As a parent it is our responsibility to give children the upbringing that prepares them for lives pleasing to God. Not the church, school, these can only assist and affirm our own training.
Prayer Point
- Lord please help me raise a Godly generation onto You
- Help me raise and train them up to live a life that is pleasing unto You
- Grant me wisdom to train them as individuals, not assuming my methods with the first will work with a second or third
17 It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous [which is to seek and submit to the will of God]—in order to make ready a people [perfectly] prepared [spiritually and morally] for the Lord.”
Prayer Point
- Lord, help my heart to be turned to the heart of my children in order to bring their hearts to the heart of the Saviour.
